Great Lakes Aviation Sues IAM

The airline wants to provide raises to its maintenance employees, but the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Air Transport District 143, is fighting the airline’s decision because less than 10 percent of Great Lakes employees are union members. Furthermore, employees have tried to decertify the IAM as their representative. The union wants a closed, unionized shop so that members will pay dues. District 143 requested that National Mediation Board (NMB) intervene and Great Lakes takes umbrage at NMB’s late intervention. The lawsuit will confirm the lack of NMB jurisdiction and Great Lakes’ ability to raise the maintenance employee’s pay without IAM permission. For related news
