Fuselage Hole Renews Mx Concerns
The approximately 17-inch by eight-inch fuselage hole that forced an emergency landing of a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-300 is likely to trigger additional scrutiny from Congress about how the carrier performs maintenance. The incident, in which the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Charleston, W.V. on Sunday, will likely also turn the microscope back on FAA’s enforcement efforts. According to a Dallas Morning News report (More), FAA is scheduled to brief congressional staff at noon central time today. “It’s a very strange situation but could have been very, very dangerous,” Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND) told the paper.
