FAA Plans to Loosen GA Safety Criteria
Earlier this month the FAA proposed new rules that stemmed from a proposal pushed by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association. The proposal’s focus is on the interior cabin rules, which were made with the safety of commercial passengers in mind, where there are more people and more trips involved. The new FAA rules would apply to companies that make money operation business jets. The rules allow jet interior upgrades (larger bathrooms, big dining areas) without the previous need for costly exemptions. Also, the FAA proposes marginally reducing the level of safety by requiring handgrips only in aisles, allowing flammable materials such as mohair and suede for walls and ceilings and approving cook tops that would have guards to lessen the risk of fire.
