FAA Issues AAR Emergency Order

The Federal Aviation Administration has released an emergency order of suspension regarding Miami-based AAR Landing Gear Services for allegedly violating Part 145 regulations. The action comes after FAA inspections uncovered that AAR did not follow maintenance manual procedures for liquid penetrant exams, shot peening and cadmium plating before returning landing gear parts to service. According to FAA, the company returned the parts to air carriers claiming that they were overhauled, when they were not. The agency also cited AAR for not following required maintenance procedures. The emergency order took effect on Feb. 10, and AAR can appeal the ruling with the National Transportation Safety Board through Feb. 20.
