FAA Extends SAAT Accreditation

South African Airways Technical (SAAT), the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) arm of the South African carrier, has received lengthened FAA accreditation following a re-audit of its facilities and staff. The U.S. regulatory agency has accredited SAAT through the end of June 2010, allowing the MRO to conduct maintenance on U.S.-registered aircraft and components through that date. FAA has carried out annual audits of SAAT’s facilities since 1994. South Africa’s Civil Aviation Authority and EASA also oversee SAAT maintenance operations.
