Olympia, Wash.-based Soloy Avionics Solutions has added Limited Radio and Limited Instrument ratings to its FAA Air Agency Certificate. In order to support the new ratings, the company has hired three technicians. CEO Dave Stauffer explains that Soloy has traditionally used avionics shops to complete work, but in recent years “it has become increasingly obvious that having an in-house avionics capability is where we needed to be.” He adds that the trend toward glass cockpits with features such as AHRS, traffic surveillance, WAAS, obstacle avoidance, EVS, satellite-based weather and ADS-B also made it important to pursue the additional ratings.
