The Federal Aviation Administration has clarified 14 CFR 91.409, which stipulates that multiengine turbine jets and turboprops, and turbine helicopters, be involved in a current maintenance program put forth by the manufacturer. The new
FAA interpretation — which AOPA says gives operators more say and responsibility for maintenance — states that the term “current” relates to the version of the maintenance program that existed when the aircraft was built, instead of the previous interpretation that operators must comply with the most up-to-date edition of the program. According to AOPA, the clarified meaning will be particularly beneficial for Cessna 425 and Conquest owners, who can now revert to the maintenance protocols from when they were manufactured 20 to 30 years ago, instead of the current Cessna maintenance program.
