Engine Upgrade to Extend Inspection Cycle

Pratt & Whitney has handed over the first 6,000-cycle production hardware for its F-100-PW-229 engine enhancement package (EEP). The upgrade program applies to F-16s and F-15s in operation with the U.S. Air Force and Navy, as well as the air units of 22 allied countries. The EEP increases the depot inspection interval from 4,300 to 6,000 cycles. The change is expected to lengthen time between inspections from an average of 7–9 years to 10–14 years.
