Dog Chews Aircraft Wiring, Panels

A Qantas aircraft was grounded after a dog that was in the cargo area got free and chewed through wiring and electrical panels. The Airbus A330 was on a Dec. 7 flight from Auckland to Melbourne when a warning light in the cockpit flashed, indicating a problem with the auxiliary power unit (APU). There was no risk to the jet as the engine had been shut down. But upon landing, the ground crew discovered a distressed dog when opening the cargo hold. According to Australian Transport Safety Bureau report, the dog managed to get out of its cage and chew through the wiring loom to the APU.
