Continental Recalls Cylinders

Mobile, Ala.-based Teledyne Continental Motors (TCM) has issued a recall of certain piston-engine cylinders that were built in Nov. 2007. The voluntary action follows the company discovering cracks in 36 cylinder head castings on engines with more than 400 hours of service. TCM President & CEO Robert Mehrabian says the recall will affect around 9,600 cylinders, which will be replaced at no cost. The company has also published an FAA mandatory service bulletin (MSB09-1) involving the identification and replacement of the cylinders. TCM has set up a service center to handle questions, 888-200-7565 in the U.S. and 251-436-8665 for international customers.
