B/E Obtains A300-600 Freighter Conversion

FAA has issued a supplemental type certificate (STC) to Wellington, Fla.-based B/E Aerospace to modify Airbus A300-600s from passenger to freighter configuration. B/E Aerospace’s Flight Structures unit is holding the STC. In 2006, B/E received a China Southern Airlines contract to convert six A300-600s to freighters. Valued at around $45 million, the agreement also involves B/E’s MRO partner, Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Co., which will supply touch labor and kit installation. B/E is covering engineering design and the STC, as well as manufacturing the conversion kits.
