Airline Signs CFM56 Support Deal
GE Aviation has secured a 10-year agreement to supply CFM56-5B engine parts and material support for the Saudi Arabian Airlines fleet of Airbus A320s. Under the $300-million contract, GE Aviation will provide CFM parts for maintenance and overhaul on a fleet of around 100 A320s, including leased aircraft. Saudi Arabian Airlines recently purchased 22 aircraft and plans to lease another 28 A320s. Deliveries of the new aircraft are scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2009 and run though late 2012. All of the airline’s CFM56-5Bs are in the “tech insertion” configuration, which reduces fuel consumption, CO2 and NOx emissions compared to the base CFM56-5B, according to GE.
