VEM Maintenance & Engineering has become an authorized repair center for Airbus
A310 rudder overhauls in Latin America. The appointment follows a certification process that involved a team of technicians and engineers from VEM’s composite structures group going to Airbus
facilities in Stade, Germany for training. The course covered theoretical and practical aspects of the A310 rudder, including delamination and disbonds created from moisture entrapment. According to VEM, another reason Airbus chose the Rio De Janeiro facility is its “white room,” which is an environmental control chamber for testing temperature, relative humidity and suspended particles.
