APU Test Cell Opens in Savannah

Gulfstream Aerospace has inaugurated its auxiliary power unit (APU) test cell within its service complex at Savannah Intl Airport (SAV) in Georgia. The 308-square-foot test cell, located in the company’s south service center, will conduct repairs and overhauls on APUs equipped on any Gulfstream aircraft, as well as other aircraft to include Bombardier, Cessna, Dassault, Hawker Beechcraft, Raytheon and Saab types. The facility will also serve as a center of excellence for Honeywell APU testing, joining repair sites in Augusta, Ga. and Grapevine, Texas. SAV is certified for the Honeywell GTCP36-100, -150 and RE220 series. The test cell has a 110-square-foot test chamber and a 198-square-foot control room. Mark Burns, Gulfstream’s president of product support, says that the test cell is “the perfect complement to our APU maintenance shop,” adding that it “improves our efficiency in dealing with APUs, which means less downtime.”
