AIA Continues Opposition to Foreign RS Provision

The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) is continuing its fight against a provision in the FAA reauthorization bill that it says could damage U.S. international relations and put thousands of jobs at risk. The bill, which cleared the U.S. House Transportation Infrastructure Committee in March, requires FAA to perform at least two yearly inspections of foreign repair stations that U.S. airlines use. AIA notes that the provision “jeopardizes the aviation safety agreement between the U.S. and European Union in which the governments recognize inspections by their counterpart’s aviation authority for local stations.” The association is working with repair stations, airlines, manufacturers and cargo operations to modify or eliminate the provision.
