The U.S. Department of Defense has unveiled its Secretary of Defense Maintenance awards for 2008, which will be presented during a banquet on Oct. 29. The H-1 aircraft production program at the Navy’s Fleet Readiness Center East in Cherry Point, N.C. will receive the Robert T. Mason Depot Maintenance Excellence award for this year. DoD has chosen six divisions for field-level awards, two each in the large, medium and small unit categories. For the large category, the Army’s 3rd Battalion, 43rd Air Defense Artillery in Fort Bliss, Texas, and the Air Force’s 1st Special Operations Maintenance Group in Hurlburt Field, Fla. are the winners. The Navy’s Fleet Readiness Center Northwest in Whidbey Island, Wash. and the Air Force’s 31st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron in Aviano, Italy took top honors in the medium-size category. For small units, the Army’s Bravo Company, 610th Brigade Support Battalion of Fort Riley, Kan. and the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 312 in Beaufort, S.C. will be given awards.
