More than 35 teams from 15 universities took part in a unique challenge that sought to explore environmentally friendly ways to operate an aircraft MRO facility. The 2008
Boeing Shanghai Challenge, hosted in conjunction with Tsinghua University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, invited students to come up with green MRO concepts for
Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services. Prizes were given for the top three entries during a ceremony on July 9. Northwestern Polytechnical University took first place with its research on green disposal of aging aircraft, followed by Wuhan University’s building an environmental and efficient MRO supply chain. Third place went to Huazhong University of Science and Technology, which presented an idea to improve the environmental effectiveness of the Boeing Pudong MRO.
