Back Shop: Tool Crib

Stahlwille Fast Ratch

Stahlwille Tools announces the Fast Ratch 240 series wrenches. Applications targeted are AN fittings and B nuts on fuel supply lines, hydraulics, oxygen lines, as well as hex nuts and bolts. The Fast Ratch acts as an open-end, ratcheting wrench designed for aerospace, industrial, medical and food processing applications. Made from laser cut stainless steel the Fast Ratch meets DIN899 series C tool specifications. It is FOD free, non-sparking, and if cleansed in pure alcohol, can be used in oxygen system environments. Available now in sizes ranging from 5/16" (8mm) to 3/4" (19mm), the Fast Ratch speeds assembly or disassembly operations without damage to fittings or lines. Fast Ratch is self-centering and applies load to the flats of the fastener making it invaluable in tight applications and blind operations. Stahlwille Tools, www.stahlwille.com.

Tempest Cap Light Illuminates Work Space

The Tempest G2 cap light, part of their line of MasterVision products, is lightweight and compact, weighing only 1.0 ounce including batteries. The light attaches to any brimmed cap for a practical, hands-free light source. It was engineered to withstand extreme use and conditions. The light is powered by two lithium coin batteries and can last for approximately 75-plus hours of bright LED light. There is a strobe mode and 2-way switch for emergencies. It is water resistant and comes in three LED colors, white, red, and green. Tempest, www.tempestplus.com.

MAC Offers Versatile Spline Sockets

A newly introduced set of spline sockets, for use on both spline and conventional fasteners, is on the market from Mac Tools. These sockets help prevent skinned knuckles with their patented anti-slip open-end design. The notch on the open end engages the corner of the fastener while it is being turned, making it difficult for the wrench to slip during use. The ratcheting box end turns fasteners without removing and repositioning the wrench. The spline box end increases the force that can be applied without rounding the fastener and minimizes damage that can cause FOD. The wrench has a chromium-based finish for longer life and corrosion resistance. Contact your Mac Tools distributor or call 1800 Mac Tools.

Stanley Proto Upgrades Torque Wrench

Although the new line of Stanley Proto micrometer torque wrenches have the same look and feel, they have actually been completely redesigned from the inside out, and fitted with a new set of internal components. The design and materials used in the wrench were upgraded, and the construction fine-tuned so that tolerances remain accurate for 30,000 cycles under normal use. "We inspected every part used in the wrench," says Russ Dilts, the product manager in charge of the redesign. "Our aim has been to improve accuracy, consistency and reliability of performance." One key improvement, among many, is in the wrench’s internal spring. The spring’s job is to hold the wrench’s tang, tilt block and plunger in place until the set torque is reached, after which these components snap off center, providing a "click" that the user can hear and feel. Proto has redesigned the internal spring so that it retains its memory. All parts of the new wrenches are also made from high-grade steel, some of which has been heat treated for added durability. Proto offers three series of micrometer torque wrenches, covering multiple applications from general manufacturing to precision. Stanley Proto, www.stanleyproto.com.
