Designed to replace spin-on filters for Lycoming and Continental engines, the new Kelly Aerospace filters feature a pleated, resin-impregnated filter media, a leaf versus coiled bypass spring, and heavy duty hex nut and safety wire tabs strong enough to withstand more than 80 foot-pounds of torque. Kelly Aerospace oil filters are available from most aircraft parts distributors. Phone: 877-359-5355, www.kellyaerospace.com
Airwolf's FAA-PMA Wet Vacuum Pump
The wet vacuum pump is back, thanks to Airwolf Filter's recently FAA approved 3P194-AFC vacuum pump. Designed to replace any 200-series vacuum pump, the 3P194-AFC works with Airwolf's Walker air-oil separator, which recirculates the 1 cc per minute of oil required by the pump. The pump's vanes are four times as thick as those on dry vacuum pumps and they are lubricated by a thin mist of oil. When installed on an aircraft with a spin-on oil filter and low-line loss vacuum fittings, Airwolf warranties the new pump for 10 years or 2,000 hours. Phone: 440-632-5136 or www.airwolf.com
Matco Softens Impact of Rivet Guns
Matco has redesigned the traditional rivet gun to improve handling characteristics. The grip is new and much more comfortable thanks to a special three-dimensional ergonomic design. And almost all exposed areas of the tool are covered with an over-molded rubber housing to make the gun a "soft tool." The new soft rivet gun is available in four sizes, from two- to five-inch cylinder lengths. Retail prices for the new rivet gun start at $635. Matco Tools, Stow, Ohio. IRWIN Updates Aviation Snips
The new line of aviation snips by IRWIN Industrial Tools improves on the venerable tool, making it easier to use and more powerful. IRWIN designers consulted with users to develop the new aviation snips, and the result is a 44 percent increase in blade strength and 25 percent reduction in cutting force. Injection-molded grips are more comfortable for the user and the grips are solidly attached and won't fall off. For users with smaller hands, the IRWIN snips feature a 10 percent reduction in hand span. One-handed operation is possible, thanks to a protective latch that can be operated while holding the snips. Four models of the new IRWIN aviation snips are available, each retailing for $16.99: models include left-and-straight, right-and-straight, straight-and-wide curves, and one for notch and trim work.
