Suspension trauma can occur when a person hangs suspended for relatively short periods of time and blood pools in the legs. The person can pass out and death can occur in as little as 15 minutes (see related story AM Safety News, April 2005). DBI/SALA and Protecta, a manufacturer of fall protection gear, have designed a strap to relieve that pressure and prevent suspension trauma. The Suspension Trauma Safety Strap allows the suspended worker to stand up in their harness to relieve the pressure to the circulatory system at the top of the legs. The strap is a continuous loop that allows having either one foot or both feet in the loop at a time. It will also relieve the pressure with just one foot in the loop. After a fall, the suspended worker unzips the pack and deploys the web loop and hook straps. These are then connected to the harness and adjusted. The Strap can be installed on most harness sizes, styles, and brands. DBI/SALA and Protecta, 651-388-8282, 800-328-6146, www.dbisala.com
Compact Mini Gyro Gives Placement Flexibility
Mid-Continent Instruments has introduced the Mini Gyro 4200 electric attitude indicator. This twp-inch attitude gyro is compact and allows flexibility when placing it in today's often-crowded instrument panel.
The two-inch Mini Gyro is comparable in many ways to Mid-Continent's innovative Lifesaver gyro (see story AM, February 2005), with the built-in battery backup for emergency attitude reference. Both may be used as either a primary or standby artificial horizon in fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, but the two-inch attitude gyro's size and lifespan of 2,500 hours make it an ideal backup unit.
The Mini Gyro costs about half the price of similar two-inch products and installation is simple. Mid-Continent predicts deliveries of the two-inch electric attitude Indicator will become available in late 2005, and units will be available for purchase through any avionics shop. Expandable Sleeving for Wire Harnasses
Waytek, maker of electrical wiring products for 30 years, has introduced an expandable sleeving product. The sleeving, made from braided polyester yarn, is for use over wire bundles and to protect hoses. The sleeving is slipped over wire harnesses or tubing by bunching it together and then stretching it back to bring it down over the wires and back to size. There are two versions of the sleeving. One is the standard 10 mil thick, and the other is heavy wall, which is 15 mil thick for protection against extreme abrasion. It is easily cut with a hot knife or scissors and rated to 257 degrees Fahrenheit. The product is available in precut packs or the company will also cut to order custom lengths. There are five precut lengths and four colors available. Waytek, 952-949-0765, 800-328-2724, www.waytekwire.com.
