Reader Feedback

Wrong Image?

While reading last month’s issue of Aviation Maintenance, I came across an advertisement that I found disturbing. It was a picture of what appeared to be a Native American female, partially undressed, holding a long pipe with a filter on the end.
I have enjoyed reading the articles and learning the latest news from around the aviation industry in this publication and I am disappointed to see this type of advertisement in a national magazine. Especially a publication that serves as a representation of the professional aircraft maintenance technician. This could serve as a deterrent in our attempts to recruit new, diverse talent as well as perpetuate inaccurate stereotypes.

Missing the Salary Survey

I am inquiring about your yearly report on aviation maintenance personnel salaries. I work in an organization within Boeing that forecasts the operating and maintenance costs for airlines and find this report extremely useful as a benchmark for industry labor rates. Do you have the 2006 version of this report?

Last year a decision was made to discontinue our annual salary survey. It is not included in the planning or editorial calendar for 2007 either. I agree that it contained extremely useful information and I lobbied to keep the survey in our line up. If there are others who would like to see the salary survey return, please send me a note, either U. S. mail or email to the address at the end of the letters. With reader support, perhaps the salary survey could make a comeback. — Editor

Contract Mx Workers

It is heartening to see the dialogue build on the importance of contract maintenance within the aviation supply chain and how we can work together to create a stronger path of professionalism for the industry. Aviation Maintenance is to be congratulated for this initiative.
I will continue to update you as we gain new insights into th contract maintenance industry and the ways we can work all together to ensure contract maintenance takes a
truly valued place in the aviation supply chain.
