Everest VIT, Rhinestahl Form Alliance
Borescope manufacturer Everest VIT is joining forces with toolmaker Rhinestahl to offer customers the ability to perform complex turbine engine rotor inspections using a combination of the two companies' equipment.
Rhinestahl is the manufacturer of the FutureDrive system, which turns the engine's rotor shaft precisely during borescope inspections so that the inspector always knows the rotor's position and which blade he or she is inspecting. This eliminates the need for an extra person to turn the rotor manually and keep track of blade count.
Everest VIT will not only sell the Rhinestahl FutureDrive along with its borescope systems but also will offer FutureDrive on a rental basis, as it does with Everest borescopes.
"Adding the Rhinestahl FutureDrive Turning Tool System to our product line allows us to meet our aviation customers' need to conduct the most efficient inspection possible," said Tom Ward, Everest VIT product manager.
The FutureDrive system, which weighs less than 50 pounds and fits into a rolling wheeled case, includes a drive unit and hand control. The gear-reduction drive unit attaches to the engine's accessory gearbox. Users can move blades manually or automatically and flag blades for reinspection. Engine types are factory installed in the turning tool, but new engine types can be added. -- By Matt Thurber
