Landa’s Rebel Wash

Industrial pressure washer manufacturer Landa has developed a new detergent for parts washer sinks. Rebel Wash detergent is used in hot-water parts washers. The cleaner is made with a multi-metal corrosion inhibitor that protects parts from flash rusting. Rebel Wash is also biodegradable and phosphate-free. Rebel Wash is available in 5- and 55-gallon containers and is dilutable at a ratio of up to 64 to 1 and is safe on all metals and plastics. Landa, 800-547-8672, 360-833-9100, www.landa.com.

Wireless Weighing

General Electrodynamics’s Brainweigh 2000 aircraft weighing system uses wireless RF technology to send weight information to a handheld computer. The scales are compact and lightweight. Once the data is received, the Brainweigh handheld computer performs center-of-gravity calculations and stores the results so they can be sent to another computer or printed. Airwolf Brings Back Wet Vacuum Pump

Airwolf Filter has resurrected a blast from aviation’s past, the oil-lubricated wet vacuum pump. Airwolf’s new 3P194-F vacuum pump is designed to replace 200-series dry vacuum pumps and comes with a 10-year/2,000-hour warranty, prorated to engine TBO. The pump is machined from aluminum billets and features a cast-iron liner and hardened-steel rotor. Vanes are made of graphite, like those on dry vacuum pumps, but they are oil-impregnated and four time thicker than typical dry pump vanes. Oil lubrication consumes 20 cubic centimeters of oil per hour, but this can be recirculated by installing Airwolf’s Walker air-oil separator. "We expect our wet pumps never to fail," said Airwolf president John Kochy. "Pilots are now trained to expect a vacuum pump failure, which we believe is akin to expecting a gear-extension failure or an electrical failure." Airwolf Filter, 440-632-5136, www.airwolf.com

Scratch-Free Bug Removal

3M has introduced a new version of the venerable Scotch-Brite pad, designed to clean painted surfaces without scratching glossy coatings. The Scotch-Brite Cleaning Pad 33 is coated with a non-abrasive polymer that "increases wet friction caused by the cleaning pad, improving cleaning efficiency," according to 3M. The #33 pads come in three sizes and can be used in conjunction with pressure washing systems. 3M, 800-362-3550, www.3m.com/aerospace

No-Mess Painting with 3M Liners

Painting aircraft or parts is a messy business. The clever inventors at 3M have devised a better method that keeps paint where it belongs–inside the paint cup–and makes cleaning up as easy as throwing away a plastic bag. The 3M Paint Preparation System consists of a special mixing cup that is attached to the paint gun using adapters that 3M provides. A plastic liner bag is installed inside the mixing cup, then the mixed paint or the ingredients are placed inside the liner. Special disposable lids are provided to seal the paint cup and liner, then a locking collar holds the entire assembly tightly. A shaker core is also available to allow the cup to be put in a paint-shaking machine. Once the paint is ready, the paint gun with adapter is attached to the lid of the mixing cup. The 3M paint system can be used at any angle, provided air is bled out before spraying upside down. When the batch of paint is finished, simply throw away (properly, of course) the paint liner and lid. Or if there is plenty of paint left, the liner and cap can be sealed and reused with a 3M sealing cap. Clean the gun with water for water-soluble paints or solvent, and the gun is ready for action. 3M, 800-362-3550, www.3m.com/automotive.
