Frontier Airlines maintenance training director Tom Hendershot has been named the Aviation Maintenance Technician of the Year. Hendershot’s multi-faceted contributions to the aviation maintenance industry include mentoring all of Frontier Airlines’s maintenance technicians through the FAA Aviation Maintenance Technician Awards program, serving on the board of directors of the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association and as an FAA operations and airworthiness safety counselor plus chairman of the FAA AMT Awards committee. An active pilot and flight instructor with more than 22,000 hours, Hendershot is strongly committed to promoting training for aircraft mechanics. The Aviation Maintenance Technician of the Year award will be presented to Hendershot on August 1 during the EAA AirVenture 2003 show by FAA administrator Marion Blakey.

Regional Aviation Maintenance Technician of the Year awards for 2003 are as follows: Northwest Mountain Region: Tom Hendershot; Southwest Region: Dan Ehlers; Central Region: Robert Elrod; Southern Region: Floyd Mathews; Western Pacific Region: Daniel Shamoon; Great Lakes Region: Morgan Stroh; New England Region: William Kamm.

Banyan Air Service has separated its piston maintenance from turbine and appointed Ron Anders to head up the new piston division. Banyan also has been appointed service center for Cessna, Cirrus, and Piper piston aircraft.

Emteq executive vice president and quality manager James Harasha was granted code 05 authorization for his FAA designated manufacturing inspection representative (DMIR) certificate. The code 05 authorization allows Harasha to perform FAA prototype conformity as well as issue FAA 8130-3 airworthiness tags for Emteq’s harness installation kits, LED lighting, equipment trays, and low-loss RF antenna assemblies.

Keystone Helicopter’s Bob Swailes and Perry Siler are working together to support Rolls Royce 250 customers based in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, the Caribbean, and South America. Siler was recently appointed Southeast sales and service manager, and Swailes is Southeast sales and service engineer.

Mike LaConto was promoted to avionics manager at Epps Aviation, Atlanta, Georgia. LaConto joined Epps Aviation in 1998 and was avionics service supervisor.
