Airbus has placed an order for 37 L3 Technologies MX-15 electro-optical and infrared imaging systems, L3 said. The Wescam product is to be installed on multiple fleets of H225M Caracals.

“L3 WESCAM is proud to have been chosen to supply its MX-15 systems, as it highlights our role as a trusted global supplier of advanced imaging technologies to the OEM marketplace,” said Mike Greenley, president of L3 Wescam. “Additionally, it confirms that the highly specialized optics and leading technologies in L3’s systems continue to meet the needs of emerging mission portfolios, ranging from combative military to time-sensitive response and recovery operations.”

The MX-15s are to be assembled in France, then delivered to two foreign governments for military application. The first delivery is to consist of 19 units. They will support missions including search and rescue, air medical and disaster relief. L3 said the second delivery will support combat search and rescue, naval operations, air medical operations and military transport operations.

MX-15 can be configured with up to six imaging and lasing payloads. L3 said that sensor options include a high-definition thermal imager, color low-light continuous zoom, daylight step zoom spotter, day/night spotter, laser rangefinder and a laser illuminator.
