Universal Avionics has finished engineering its InSight display system, the company said. It can now work toward completion of a supplemental type certificate and technical standard order (TSO) package in preparation for Type Inspection Authorization (TIA).

If approved, InSight would provide an open architecture, integrated flight deck solution. The product can support multiple interfaces with available 3- or 4- 10.4” (diagonal) EFI-1040 display system configurations. Fewer line replaceable units (LRU) are required, allowing for less avionics weight and wiring in the aircraft.

“We are pleased to have reached this significant milestone and look forward to introducing our latest product to the industry,” Dan Reida, Universal Avionics VP of Sales and Marketing, says. “We recognized the challenge to get new technology into the flight deck without an entirely new upgrade, and InSight is the solution.”

InSight features embedded next generation synthetic vision with advanced mapping capability. Embedded charts, radio control and broadcast weather are also included. The solution can also be integrated with the company’s satellite-based augmentation system-flight management system (SBAS-FMS) and UniLink® UL-800/801 communications management unit.
