[Avionics Magazine 10-17-2016] The FAA has granted Satcom Direct (SD) Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) for its SD Wi-Fi Hub. The European Aviation Safety Administration has also granted the company EASA 145 Repair Station designation. This official approval by the FAA marks SD as an authorized manufacturer for avionics, as well as an authorized Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) center for all SD avionics.

The FAA awarded SD the certification for its development of the SD Wi-Fi Hub, a standalone router and Wi-Fi solution that enables onboard voice and data communications. In order to gain the approval, over the last five months, the Orlando Manufacturing & Inspection District Office (MIDO) have audited the associated processes, manufacturing quality manuals, and the physical setup at SD’s Melbourne, Florida headquarters.

The PMA certification will allow SD to use Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) to quickly obtain approvals on future hardware developments.
