[Avionics Today 09-27-2016] Thomas Global Systems has received an FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for its TFD-8601 Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS) upgrade on Embraer EMB 120 aircraft. The TFD-8601 display is a plug-and-play, Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD) replacement for legacy Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) displays. The new display aims to provide improved reliability while reducing weight and power consumption when compared to legacy CRT displays. It retains all use of existing cockpit systems.

Thomas developed the TFD-8601 AMLCD display in partnership with airline Regional Express. The company also achieved the STC as part of a collaborative effort with EMB 120 operator Ameriflight. The system is available now through Thomas Global and Thomas Global authorized dealers. The company has entered into a multi-year preferred supplier agreement with Ameriflight covering these products.
