[Avionics Today 08-24-2016] NextFlex will commemorate the official opening of its Flexible Hybrid Electronics (FHE) manufacturing facility in San Jose, Calif., which aims to further develop flexible electronics for use in aerospace applications..

The facility opens one year after Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter announced a $75-million award to advance the manufacturing ecosystem and workforce in the United States. FHE aims to transform powerful, yet traditionally bulky electronics into formats that bend, stretch, fold, and conform to the contours of our world, whether a human body, a vehicle, infrastructure, and other objects. The electronics aim to reveal smarter and lighter consumer wearables; health monitoring devices, including intelligent patches and bandages for medical treatments; structural monitoring to protect and optimize buildings, vehicles, bridges, and more.
