[Avionics Today 07-21-2016] As a result of technical issues with primary systems, Southwest Airlines canceled nearly 700 flights Wednesday and hundreds more were delayed. Southwest Airlines reported most systems were back online Thursday morning, following performance issues with multiple technology systems as a result of an outage Wednesday afternoon.

“Employees worked around issues with primary systems and utilized back-up procedures to get as many customers and checked luggage to their intended destinations as we worked to fix the system,” Southwest said in a statement.

The company says it has already canceled more than 220 flights on Thursday and is continuing to manage the flight disruptions created across the company’s system, but has not released any further information on the particular systems impacted.
