[Avionics Today 04-19-2016] Garmin has expanded its offering to select countries within Europe and new enhancements to its Pilot app for iOS mobile devices that will enable pilots the option of filing Visual Flight Rules (VFR) flight plans directly with a country’s Aeronautical Information Service (AIS). Additional features for iOS include a flight profile view, new VFR charts for the United Kingdom and France, customized personal minimums, preferred runway selection based on favorable winds and aera 660 integration, among others.

“In addition to making a series of enhancements within Europe, we’ve incorporated many safety-minded features, including the option of displaying [routine weather reports] METAR’s within the flight profile view and incorporating customized personal minimums. All of these new features combined into a single app give customers added reassurance that flight-critical items are not overlooked during pre-flight planning and in-flight navigation,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin’s vice president of aviation sales and marketing.
