[Avionics Today 04-05-2016] Air Astana has signed an agreement with Rockwell Collins to provide the airline’s passengers with broadband In-Flight Connectivity (IFC). Air Astana will install the associated Inmarsat Global Xpress (GX) high-speed connectivity system on its fleet of Boeing 767 airliners starting in September, making the Kazakhstan airline one of the first to operate with the GX system, according to Rockwell Collins.

The new service will be available to business and economy class passengers on all three of Air Astana’s Boeing 767s. Using Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs), passengers will be able to surf the Internet, use various instant messenger applications and check e-mails. The company will begin the first aircraft installation in September 2016 and system installation on the other two aircraft will follow in March and September 2017.
