[Avionics Today 02-08-2016] Ravn Alaska has selected Universal Avionics’ MFD-890R Multi-Function Display (MFD) system, to deliver critical flight safety information and weather to Dash 8 operators. Integrations are currently underway through the engineering division at Avmax.

The MFD-890R provides regional airline operators with a package for a previously unavailable level of weather and terrain, and obstacles awareness. For the growing community of Dash 8/Qs being deployed for special ops, the MFD-890R is Night Vision Goggle (NVG)-compatible and can display video from mission systems and electro-optical and infrared sensors.

“Universal Avionics is working with regionals to provide multi-function displays and a navigation system with high-resolution mapping, traffic, weather and terrain,” said Norm Matheis, Universal Avionics regional sales manager for Canada. “The end of life for the obsolete Primus 800 radar in the Dash 8/Q is driving this today.”

The EFI-890R product family entered service with regional and executive operators in 2004 and the MFD-890R has since been introduced as a stand-alone flight deck MFD.
