[Avionics Today 05-27-2015] NATS and airport and Air Traffic Management (ATM) technology provider Indra Navia have announced a new air traffic enhancement solution using Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) technology.

The joint solution aims to improve on the current capability of existing GBAS solutions. It provides a wide range of approach routes through a single system to capacity-constrained airports. This makes it possible for airlines to reduce flying time, and therefore save on fuel consumption, while reducing noise for residents near the airport through the use of higher approach angles.

The offering will cover planning and evaluation through to site selection, installation, commissioning, regulatory approval and in-service support. This is the first market solution the companies will work on together since the two signed a strategic partnership in March this year.
