[Avionics Today July 17, 2014] GE Aviation has entered a new partnership with Barco to develop a new family of open system cockpit displays targeting helicopter avionics system applications. Under the partnership, Barco will provide its cockpit display design expertise, while GE Aviation will provide thermal management, graphics processing, application development and computing to "create a low profile, passively cooled cockpit display system," GE said.

Alan Caslavka, president of avionics and digital systems for GE Aviation, said the partnership will develop the "most advanced flight deck with embedded applications while driving efficiency and reducing through life costs."

The two companies previously partnered to jointly develop display systems for the U.K. Wildcat, Merlin and International AW159 helicopters.
