[Avionics Today June 9, 2014] The Swiss Armed Forces has selected Elbit Systems’ Hermes 900 HFE as the replacement for its current Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS).

Under a 2015 arms procurement deal, the Israeli aerospace manufacturer’s UAS will replace the ADS 95 Ranger, which the Swiss Armed Forces has been operating since 2001.  The replacement will occur by 2020, as the ADS 95 reaches the end of its operational life cycle.

According to the Swiss Armed Forces, their Hermes 900 HFE will be unarmed, and was selected because it has longer endurance and a wider operational range than the Ranger.
