Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) software developer Flightman has a new contract to provide infrastructure of a Class 2 EFB for WestJet’s regional subsidiary, WestJet Encore.
Under the contract, Flightman will develop the infrastructure to support a Class 2 EFB. WestJet has not yet announced what hardware the Flightman software will be deployed on, as the application is hardware independent, according to the company. The airline is currently looking at "several options" for hardware deployment, according to a company spokesperson.
The regional carrier is looking to deploy the EFBs on its fleet of Bombardier Q400 NextGen series aircraft.
According to a spokesperson for Flightman, the pilots and cabin crew will both use the EFB, with the cabin crew primarily using the company’s Passenger Relationship Manager application.
WestJet Encore is scheduled to launch its first commercial flight June 24, although the EFBs will not be operational for its initial flights.
