Sikorsky Aircraft completed the first flight of its X2 Technology Demonstrator, maneuvering the prototype aircraft through hover, forward flight and a hover turn, the company said. The test flight, which lasted about 30 minutes and took place at Sikorsky’s Schweizer Aircraft in Horseheads, N.Y., demonstrated the aircraft’s suite of suite of technologies intended to “advance the state-of-the-art, counter-rotating coaxial rotor helicopter,” the company said. Among the technologies the demonstrator employed are fly-by-wire flight controls; counter-rotating, all-composite rigid rotor blades; hub drag reduction; active vibration control and integrated auxiliary propulsion system.
