Spirit Airlines Renews ARINC Datalink Pact

Spirit Airlines, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., renewed its contract with ARINC, Annapolis, Md., for its GLOBALinkSM data link communications contract for an additional 5 years. Financial terms were not disclosed. Spirit Airlines, an ultra-low-cost carrier, integrated several new third-party flight applications over its VHF ACARS service, including an air data performance program and a weight/balance application. The airline also installed an ACARS management program for enhanced weather information. ARINC has provided Spirit Airlines with digital data link service over the GLOBALink/VHF network using efficient VDLM2 digital protocol since 2004.
