SkyTrac, Kelowna, British Columbia, will provide satellite communication and flight following systems to HelicoptersNZ, New Zealand’s largest helicopter company. HelicoptersNZ, Nelson, New Zealand, operates a fleet of 39 aircraft comprising Bell 212, 412 and 206B JetRanger III models and a number of Eurocopter AS350 Squirrel models. HelicoptersNZ operates in remote locations that are often outside the normal range of VHF ground stations. “HelicoptersNZ has a requirement for satellite-based communications and tracking because we operate in remote locations such as Antarctica, South-East Asia and in support of various offshore activities,” said Russell Pirihi, chief pilot for HelicoptersNZ.
