Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin unveiled a plan last week to give low-interest loans to pilots to install advanced satellite-based avionics in their aircraft. The plan would act as part of a larger plan to facilitate the installation of Capstone-compliant avionics. FAA’s Capstone program includes Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B), Required Navigation Performance (RNP) and Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS). “In addition to reducing aircraft accidents, equipping planes with these advanced avionics can offer safer access to rural communities,” Palin said. “This new technology will also increase the safety and effectiveness of medical evacuations and search-and-rescue operations.”
